The faculty and staff had some fun this week with a "Hidden Spirit Week." The students didn't know we had themes picked out for each day; it was so fun listening to them try to figure out what was going on (especially on Monday), and they looked forward to seeing what we were doing each day! Monday was "Dress Like Roger Day;" Roger is our Technology Director and has a very specific wardrobe. He was such a good sport when he figured it out! Tuesday was "Dress Like a Coach" (with a whistle around your neck ready to make a call). Wednesday was "College Sweatshirt Day," and Thursday was "Represent your Favorite Holiday." Christmas was very much represented, but we had St. Patricks Day, Halloween, and July 4th represented as well. Friday was "Dress Like the Students and Anything But a Cup." The students picked up on this theme very quickly! :) We will have dress up days for the students during our last week before break so we aren't the only ones having fun!

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. UHS is excited to annouce that the 2024-25 recipient is Samira. Once a student is chosen as their school's DAR Good Citizen, the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and an essay. Student participation in the scholarship portion of the program is optional.

Thank you to all of our veterans that took time out of their day to join us for breakfast this morning at UJSHS! I shared this morning with our building an excerpt from our nation's Secretary of Defense, "On Veterans Day, we honor the extraordinary selflessness and strength of the American patriots who have served in the U.S. military. Today and every day, we give thanks to the generations of men and women who have answered the call to protect our country. They have defended our freedoms and upheld the values of liberty, justice, democracy, and the rule of law that define us as Americans. . .To all our veterans, thank you for your service. You have defended our freedoms, protected our democracy, and shown us all the true meaning of patriotism. We are forever grateful."
