This is a reminder to all UJSHS families that all pre-arranged absences must be approved by the building principal at least five school days prior to the student’s first day of the absence. Parents must provide a written request or contact the school office by phone detailing the dates their student will be gone and a brief reason as to why they’ll be gone. Students will receive a pre-arranged absence form to complete with each of their teachers and return the completed form to the office before leaving for the missed day(s). Please see the student handbook for further details.

UHS Band's tremendous talents were on display yesterday with their performance at the Illinois Music Education Conference at the Civic Center in Peoria. Under the direction of Madeline Wood and Student Teacher Sydney Hollis, the band performed a clinic demonstration focused on Flex-Band for a large audience of conference attendees and United music supporters. This demonstration included the world premiere of a portion of United's own commissioned work, Horizon's First Light, by Composer Timothy Corpus. This commissioned work was courtesy of a grant received earlier this year from the Looser-Flake Charitable Foundation. Other highlights of the conference include: recognition for the third year in a row for Junior Elly Hinton as All-State on Contra-Alto Clarinet and recent United Student Teacher, Garrett Sprinkle, receiving the Outstanding Student Teacher Award.
