Tat the Teacher: Mrs. Oehlert's 6th grade students improved their reading scores. For each level of improvement, they gave her a new tatoo. What a fun way to encourage growth!


United will host a Girls Basketball Youth Camp for incoming 3rd to 6th graders. Please see the attached form for more details.

UIS staff and students will celebrate our Young Authors Celebration on Friday, May 9th. UIS's unique approach to Young Authors through genres will be evident this week as we recognize some of our favorite genres with DRESS UP DAYS.
Monday will be Humor & Comedy Day- Wear your favorite patterns, big accessories, or bold colors.
Tuesday will be Adventure & Survival Day - Throw on your backpack and camo or sport your camping gear.
Wednesday will be Sports Fiction Day- Sport your favorite jersey or athletic gear.
Thursday will be Word Nerd Day - Strut your favorite t-shirt with words.
Friday will be our Red Carpet Celebration - Dress your best for our celebrity celebration.

UIS Young Authors Celebration will be on May 9th. If your child submitted a story, he or she and invitation and received tickets for family member to attend the celebration. All students will attend the celebration during the school day to highlight our authors. Please ask your child if he or she submitted a story.

Ms. Wood took a select group of elite 5th and 6th grade musicians to Sherrard for an additional performance this weekend.


6th Graders are required to have a dental exam in the last 18 months. This exam is due MAY 15TH and can be submitted to the UIS office.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th through May 9th. School Nurse Day is also that week. Attached is a list of our staff favorites you can use to show appreciation to your child's teacher and Nurse Jenna. It is also linked on our website.

Fifth grade students spent the day applying the skills they have learned in Financial Literacy at BizTown. Students were assigned jobs and released to support their own economy. Thank you to all the volunteers and teachers who supported our students and made this day happen.









Thursday, April 17th will be a Propel Day! Students may purchase Propel for $2.

THANK YOU to all our families and friends who generously donated to the UIS PTO Calendar fundraiser. The PTO donated over $7000 to UIS. These funds will be used to cover grade level field trips. We are grateful to all who supported our fundraiser.
