United High School Cheerleading Tryouts will be Friday, March 8th after school. All current 8th grade-Juniors from United and ICS may tryout. Junior High students may ride the bus to the high school. Congratulations to Reece Bertelsen and Landon Burns for their IHSA Academic All-State awards! Reece earned all-state recognition and Landon was represented on the honorable mention list.

Don't forget about the Mellinger Scholarship which is due May 1. All students are encouraged to apply even if they will be using the Sampson Promise Scholarship for Carl Sandburg College.

United High School’s Students of the Month for December/January are Senior, Rachel; Junior, Jake; Sophomore, DeAngelo; and Freshman, Tate. Rachel was nominated by Ms. Wood in recognition of her incredible leadership skills. Ms. Wood says that Rachel represents the UHS Core Values of “Integrity and Family” because she always ensures equipment returns to the band room and is a mentor to so many students. Jake was nominated by Mrs. Burgess due to his display of the UHS Core Value of “Commitment." Mrs. Burgess says that Jake is a dedicated student who has grown leaps and bounds in his willingness to try new things. DeAngelo was nominated by Mrs. Carter for being incredibly polite, respectful and helpful. Because of these attributes and the fact that he has a contagious, upbeat personality, he personifies the UHS Core Values of “Family, Commitment, Integrity, and Empathy”. Tate was nominated by Mrs. Anderson in recognition of his kindness and respectfulness. Tate represents the "Commitment" Core Value for UHS because of his positive attitude and inspiring ways of saying goodbye when he leaves her classroom. Congratulations to these students!
