Yesterday was the first meeting of United North's new Geography Club. We had a great turnout! Our third grade members met yesterday morning for the first time and learned a bit about the history of the National Parks Service. They then brainstormed many really great questions that they would like to ask a park ranger. These will be put together and written into a letter and sent off to the National Parks Service "Write a Ranger" program. We look forward to hearing back from the ranger and learning all about what it is like to work for the National Parks system. We also talked a bit about the "Every Kid Outdoors" program which allows fourth grade students and their families free admission to National Parks for the entire year, which hopefully some of our families can take advantage of next summer after students have completed third grade (or our current fourth graders can take advantage of now). Weatherman James Zahara visited both 3rd grade classes this morning. He gave a great presentation and we were even able to go inside the news channel 8 weather truck.

We are part of the Box Tops for Education Program. If you would like to help us earn money for the school, this is how it works.
All you need is your phone! Download the Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of your purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit our school's earnings online. Twice a year, our school will receive a check from Box Tops.
When you go to the app, look for United North Elementary and follow the steps. Mrs. Hinton will be in charge of the program, so please reach out to her if you have any questions.
