Today in STEAM, sixth grade learned about cantilevers, counterweights and deflection/bending as it pertains to different structures around us- street lights, certain patio umbrellas and some types of traffic lights. They then applied what was learned to create a cantilever with their table group. They have also been working on accuracy in measurements and incorporated those skills into measuring how far off of the edge of the table they could extend their cantilever before it would fall.

It's BOOK FAIR week at UIS! Each title has been curated by our own school librarian, Mrs. Koerner, to ensure the perfect fit for our student needs. All books are under $10, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the UIS library (instead of an outside book company).
