This week in STEAM, UIS fifth graders were able to apply what they have learned about properties of light and how it travels, along with how light interacts with different objects and materials, to building and solve a light maze. Students were challenged to work together as a team to guide a beam of light through a series of obstacles to hit a target on the other side.

Help the United High School Social Media Marketing students launch their special holiday projects now through December 5th. Three student groups have partnered with The Strom Center, Western Illinois Animal Rescue, and The Jamieson Center to help with their respective non-profit initiatives.
Please consider supporting these causes over the next few weeks. You can drop off items or monetary donations at the United High School office or Mrs. Horner’s classroom.
Be sure to follow United Red Storm Media 304 on Facebook and Instagram to watch each group market their nonprofits' needs and share updates throughout the campaign.
Thank you for helping your United students learn the power of community, compassion, and creativity this holiday season.!

The weather is getting colder, and our UIS students need to be outside as much as possible. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. If your student wears shorts to school, please make sure he or she has pants for recess. Coats and jackets are a must as well. Thank you!

Today in STEAM, sixth grade learned about cantilevers, counterweights and deflection/bending as it pertains to different structures around us- street lights, certain patio umbrellas and some types of traffic lights. They then applied what was learned to create a cantilever with their table group. They have also been working on accuracy in measurements and incorporated those skills into measuring how far off of the edge of the table they could extend their cantilever before it would fall.

🎃 UIS Halloween Parties are Friday! 👻
We’re excited to celebrate Halloween at United Intermediate School! Our classroom parties are always a special time for students and their classmates to enjoy fun activities, treats, and community building. Parents who have signed up to help with the parties are welcome to attend — thank you for volunteering your time! 🎉 Please note that siblings and other family members will not be permitted, as this helps maintain a focused and safe environment for our students to celebrate together.
Students are welcome to wear their costumes all day! Please remember that costumes must follow the school dress code and cannot include blood, gore, or weapons.
We can’t wait to see all the spooky fun and smiles! 🕸
