If you are able, please consider contributing to this important cause. Every donation helps us come closer to our goal and supports families in our community. Thank you for your generosity!

Our second annual UIS Thanksgiving Parade took place on Tuesday, and we were to grateful this year to open things up for sixth graders families to attend and support their students. Ms. Wood and our 6th graders beginning band started off our celebration with “We Will Rock You”, “Hot Cross Buns” and “Let’s Go Red”. The sixth graders then were able to parade their awesome floats they have been working on in STEAM class. This fun tradition gives students the opportunity to work on time management skills, creative problem solving, collaboration, and engineering design skills. Thank you so much to Ms. Wood and the band, the families who came and supported our students and to the teachers, staff and students who helped and encouraged the sixth graders. We also had a special “Balloons Over Broadway” display put together by Mrs. Wood’s students which is in the display cabinet in the cafeteria. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break and a very happy Thanksgiving!

This week in STEAM, UIS fifth graders were able to apply what they have learned about properties of light and how it travels, along with how light interacts with different objects and materials, to building and solve a light maze. Students were challenged to work together as a team to guide a beam of light through a series of obstacles to hit a target on the other side.
