United is proud to partner with the Regional Office of Education to bring the Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP) to our Junior and Senior High School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, ALOP is āa stateāsanctioned initiative established under ArticleāÆ13B of the Illinois School Code (105 ILCSāÆ5/Art.āÆ13B). It allows school districts to create and implement tailored programs for students whose academic, behavioral, or socioāemotional needs arenāt being met by traditional settings. These programs help students reach Illinois Learning Standards in a safe, supportive environment.ā
ALOP's aim is to support students in re-engaging with the traditional school curriculum or preparing for post-secondary education or adult learning. It is also our intention to offer a series of after school enrichment programs available to both junior and senior high school students which, at this time, include: trips every Wednesday to the Western Illinois Animal Rescue, a Classroom Scene Investigation Club (CSI Club) which will meet the second Saturday of each month, and tutoring/homework help which is available Monday through Thursday in the schools libraries.
ALOP will be run and overseen by our site coordinator Ms. Ashley Jones. Ms. Jones comes to us as a recent graduate of Monmouth College where she participated on the basketball team. If you have any questions, please reach her via email at ashley.jones@u304.org.
