Are you a parent or caregiver of a preschooler who is enrolled in a Preschool for All or Preschool for All Expansion classroom? If yes, this message is for YOU! Today, November 9, 2020, The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Behavioral Insights and Parenting (BIP) Lab at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy announced a partnership to deliver a text messaging program called Chat2Learn designed to boost school readiness.
The Chat2Learn program aims to establish a habit among parents of engaging in the development of their children’s foundational skills for school readiness at home. This is especially important while in-person learning at early childhood centers remains limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program draws on behavioral science to reduce informational and cognitive barriers to parents’ engagement in their children’s learning. Chat2Learn applies behavioral tools to prompt natural conversations between parents and children that inspire learning, exploration, social-emotional connection, and creative thinking.
Preschool for All and Preschool for All Expansion parents/caregivers can start signing up now by contacting their child's classroom Family Educator. Text messages begin on Dec. 6 and continue through June 30, 2021. Contact Mr. Coate if interested.

Congratulations to our 1st Friday Remote Shout Out drawing winners! You'll be picking a special coupon out next week. Full remote winners, be looking for something special in the mail.

The Kindergarten National Park Junior Ranger trip to the Gateway Arch was not able to happen last school year. However, the “spirit” of our trip was able to be fulfilled by DonorsChoose and those who donated to this project in the adding of several items to both first grade classrooms (for our last year’s Kindergarten ) as well as to the board game check out in our school’s library for all families of United West Elementary to enjoy! Along with these purchases for in school use, each of the kids will be receiving a National Park 2020-2021 Atlas and NP Junior Ranger Opoly game to enjoy at home with their families. Mrs. Higbee sincerely hopes these items will continue to foster the love and respect of our National Park System in each of our kids and their families here at United West Elementary! Our sincere thanks to all who donated to support our National Park dreams! We will keep dreaming!

Students should dress in long sleeves or sweatshirts during the fall and winter seasons. This will help with safety, minimize disruptions and decrease the amount of lost items, too. Thank you!
